My Two Cents: Mothers, Daughters, Mentors and More

Coming Full Circle When I first conceived the Global Girls Project three years ago, it was originally a mother-daughter project, inspired by my own daughter and focused on the legacy of leadership that is often passed on from one generation to the next. Over time, as I framed out the project and considered how we define ‘mother’ from a multicultural perspective, I opted to take a more inclusive approach, recognizing that the concept of ‘mother’ comes in many forms, not all of which fall within the traditional familial sense of the word. While there are indeed many mentors and role models that shape and influence our character and the potential of all we might become, mothers, grandmothers, and other extended family, biological or otherwise, play a unique and important role in shaping character of young girls, especially during their formative years.
